Best Laid Plans

I've been pedalling every day for 23 days and I need a bit of R & R. My plan was to go to Oban and stay in the hostel for 3 nights to chill and sort out a few bits and bobs before heading to the Outer Hebrides.

The ferry to Oban from Jura took longer than expected due to the fog and rain but at least I wasn't cycling it it.

Rain Oban

I headed straight for the hostel only to be told that they only had a bed available for one night. Never mind I can try the other hostel - same story, only a bed for one night. That is the only downside to not really having a plan for where I'm going next, it's very hard to book somewhere to stay when I want. Nevermind, one night is better than no nights so I headed into town, bought some nice shiny new padded cycling shorts and a new can of camping fuel.

It was a bit strange to be back in a larger town with lots of people and traffic. It was obviously useful to get the things I needed but it didn't seem like the best place to relax.

I decided to treat myself to a meal in the local Wetherspoons, The Corrywreckan, named after the whirlpool at the north tip of Jura. I don't get the opportunity to each much meat on my travels and so I had a wonderful big fat juicy beef burger topped with haggis and a whisky sauce - soooooo good!

I went to the local Oban Ales microbrewery but they weren't currently brewing and so I bought a couple of their ales from the local shop and returned to the hostel to relax.

Looking at the surrounding islands to visit I found that Lismore had a bunkhouse and after contacting them through Facebook I'd arranged to stay there the following night, yay.

An early night for me tonight, got to make the most of this bed! :-D
