Naturally Wild Woman

Naturally Wild Woman

I woke at 5am this morning to a sore ankle. Last nights alcohol intake obviously wasn't enough to see me through, duly noted for tonight I think - this recovery malarkey is blowing my daily food and drink budget, haha!

The ankle today is still quite fat but more mobile and hence probably that's why it's more painful.

Ankle

I'm pleased with the progress though and am secretly enjoying putting my feet up and doing nothing for a while.

I've had a few joking comments about my rather hairy legs when posting pics of my ankle and so I thought it was an interesting topic to delve into. I'm not a particularly girly girl by any means but in my previous (pre-adventure) life I did ensure to be reasonably groomed on a day to day basis. I shaved my legs and armpits and tweezed my eyebrows as us women seem to be required to do in society. I haven't worn makeup for years as I don't like it, can't be bothered and don't see why I should bother if I'm happy without it. A lot of people wouldn't even open the front door without a layer of disguise on and I'm fine with that, each to their own and all that jazz. So in my ruthless packing for this journey there was no way that I was wasting valuable space and adding weight by carrying a razor. I think it was around week 4 when I was seriously impressed by my ability to grow my leg hair, in fact when I was riding with Ben I joked that my legs would be as hairy as his soon.

This is by far the longest time I've ever gone without shaving legs or armpits and I'm embracing the natural wildness of it. It really doesn't bother me and although I will be shaving it all off when I return to the 'real' world I am feeling rather liberated in my hairiness right now. Plus I'm on a fully loaded mountain bike and so am not in the slightest worried about aerodynamics and I'm sure those lengthy little hairs are keeping my legs toasty on the cooler days!

As for my rapidly expanding eyebrows I've decided that as long as I don't end up with a proper slug-like monobrow then it is a good way to grow them out and get to style them again when I return. There will be some people who read this and think that it's rather disgusting to be hairy but if you don't like it then don't look. I feel rather sorry for these people that are so shallow to judge people on their looks. Yes we all do it to a certain extent but if someone is happy in their own skin then who are we to judge?

As for me I'm staying hairy and happy for the time being! 😀
