Run November

After 3 years, I left my job on Thursday and I start my new job on Monday. It's always hard to leave good memories and good people behind but it's just as important to have new challenges in life! I'm not sure whether it's because I've been off my bike for a fortnight now (due to my thumb still not being strong enough for the gears) but somehow a new job isn't quite enough of a challenge......so....Run November was born.

I've been running 2-3 times a week for the last 6 weeks and I've really enjoyed it so far. I have however missed cycling recently and am looking forward to getting back to it as soon as my thumb is fixed. I've also decided that after recent struggles with the gears, I need to take the plunge and invest in a new bike. I bought my current bike back in February/March time off a mate at work for £50 as I didn't know if cycling was for me and since then I've cycled to work 4 times a week for the last 6 months and I love it! I've had a few issues with the bike and made a few repairs and basically now feel that it's time to spend some cold hard cash on a shiny new bike.

What's this got to do with my challenge though? Well, that's where it gets interesting - the prize for completing the challenge is to buy myself a new bike for Christmas! The challenge.....to run at least 5km EVERY DAY FOR THE WHOLE OF NOVEMBER! This is not an easy challenge - it's dark now both before and after work and will only be getting colder as time marches on. I also usually have a rest day between runs - the only consolation is that 5km hopefully should be do-able, I think it's motivation and stamina which will be my biggest hurdles.

Why do it? Why not just buy the bike? Well, that would just be too easy now wouldn't it - in a world where we buy what we want when we want it, there's no fun in that! ;-) Don't get me wrong, I've never run even 3 days back to back so this is by no means an easy feat for me and will require some serious dedication but it's time to see what I'm made of! (plus I really would like a new bike).

Watch this space, the hard work starts tomorrow!
